Christian Formation

We believe that Christian formation at St. John's is important for all, ranging from the youngest to the oldest! We have programs for adults (to which older youth/teens are welcome), programs specific to older youth when applicable, and our program for younger children.

Below are the programs we currently have for adults.

Adult Programs

Adult Christian formation is encouraged in four ways at St. John’s. The first includes programs that are general interest, and may focus on a topic, a book, or are sometimes seasonal, such as Lenten programs. The second Christian formation process at St. John’s is training for specific ministries, which may be licensed by the Bishop (such as Worship Leader or Eucharistic Visitor), or commissioned by our priest (such as Lector or Usher). Additionally, we are currently creating focused podcasts, that will have worship and/or educational foci. Finally, we have individualized or small group education to prepare people for Confirmation, to be received into the Episcopal Church from another denomination, or to pursue individual interests.

Lenten Book Study

Verna Dozier (1917-2006) was a female African American lay theologian in the Episcopal Church. For this book Verna Dozier used her texts from a series of lectures she delivered to her home parish, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. The book is a beautifully and powerfully written description of our need to be the people of God, with authority, ministries, and faith. Please join Mother Tori and others online on Wednesday evenings, March 9-April 6, 7:30-8:30 pm to discuss Verna Dozier’s book, The Dream of God: A Call to Return (2021: Seabury Books).

Zoom sign in information for Wednesday evenings at 7:00 and 7:30 pm.

Go in peace….

In August St. John’s commissioned Sophia Greenberg, one of our young members, as she embarked on a service year with the Seattle Service Corps. Sophia was a member of the Journey to Adulthood program while in high school and taught in our children’s Joyful Journey program both during and after college.
