Worship Ministries
Email the office to fill in any remaining ministry slots.
You may also use the schedule posted on the bulletin board next to the offices.
Please note when you are serving and thank you for your ministry!
There are many opportunities for contributing to St. John's worship services. All are welcome in any ministry capacity, with training provided by our clergy or designated leader. Eucharistic Ministers, Eucharistic Visitors, and Worship Leaders are trained and supervised at St. John’s, and are licensed by the Bishop.
Acolytes
To serve as an acolyte, one needs to be at least in the fourth grade. After initial training, acolytes are scheduled to serve on Sunday mornings and for special services. We have no upper age limit for serving as an acolyte.
Altar Flowers
Parishioners may sign up to donate the altar flowers for any Sunday service, often this is done in memory of family member or to celebrate birthdays or anniversaries. The annual altar flowers calendar is posted on the office door. Suggested donation is $80 to cover the cost of the two vases of flowers. If you would like to sign up to give altar flowers, you may list your name on the calendar or contact the office.
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild takes care of all aspects of the altar and our Sunday worship set-up. They change the various linens and altar cloths that adorn the altar – which is no small feat when we change colors frequently due to celebrations such as weddings/funerals/saints’ days! They also set up our Holy Communion for each service and keep the lights burning in the candles. Their ministry is mostly “behind the scenes” yet very obvious every time we worship together. Speak with Maureen Megerditchian for more information.
Choir and Cantors
Our Choir leads us each week in singing our hymns and offertory anthems. Cantors are those members of the Choir designated by the Organist and Choir Director to lead our singing on microphones. Speak with Bert to join us in lifting our voices unto the Lord.
Eucharistic Ministers
Eucharistic Ministers are licensed by the Bishop to assist the clergy during the Eucharist. With the priests, the Eucharist Ministers serve Holy Communion to the congregation.
Eucharistic Visitors
Eucharistic Visitors are licensed by the Bishop and commissioned by the clergy to take Holy Communion on Sunday after church to the infirm or homebound who unable to come to the church for worship.
Intercessors
Parishioners are scheduled to lead prayers at Sunday and special services.
Lectors
Parishioners are scheduled to read Scripture at Sunday and special services. Lectors are trained and commissioned by the clergy.
Tech Ministers
Trained by our clergy, the Tech Ministers set up the microphones and laptop every Sunday morning and facilitate those online connecting to the worship. This allows our worship to be a connection of the people present in the sanctuary as well as connected online. The gift the Tech Ministers give us is profound – being able to gather as an extended community. Their ministry is behind the scenes, but the screen in the church that shows those who are logging in, and the words, movement, music, and prayer that reach wherever we are, are testimonies to the faithful ministry of these ministers.
Ushers
Our Ushers are the first people we see on Sunday morning. They welcome everyone at the door with a bulletin, a nametag, a smile, and anything else that might help those coming to worship feel more comfortable. All ushers help visitors find a place to sit, and then present our Offering to the Lord as we prepare for Holy Communion. They keep track of obvious things, like how many of us there are in worship, and small things like whether someone might be served by having Communion brought to them at their seat. They keep our worship running smoothly and are always present and ready to assist anyone throughout our time together. Their graciousness and hospitality bless us all.
Worship Leaders
In the absence of a priest there are parishioners who lead the Daily Office (Morning or Evening Prayer). Worship Leaders are trained and supervised by our clergy, and licensed by the Bishop.
