Intercessors serve in worship services as those offering the prayers of the people on their behalf. The call to be an Intercessor is different from being a Lector and currently involves individual training to serve in this capacity.

Intercessors pray their petitions to God on behalf of the people. It is important for Intercessors to be aware of their own understanding of the prayer being offered, and to be attentive to the pronunciation of people’s names.

At St. John’s, the list of intercessions is determined by the priest. All individuals to be added to the prayer list is provided to the Intercessor, who then speaks the prayers on behalf of the congregation. All names on the Intercession list are prayed by the church all week. Names are removed from the list after one month, unless otherwise determined.
